Capoeira is an
Afro-Brazilian martial art that has been practiced since the
17th century, created by the African slaves who were brought
to Brazil. Capoeira is very different from other martial
arts in that it involves not only self-defense, but
movement, music, dance and much more. To learn capoeira, one
must not only learn the basic movements, but understand the
roots of capoeira and its philosophy.

Josef Haber L.Ac (Instructor Santo') began his training in
the martial arts at age 6. In 2001 Instructor Santo' moved to
California to attend Pitzer college. Three months into school he
had his first exposure to Capoeira. Enamored by the grace and
beauty of the style he began to train and has continued ever
since. For the last 9 years Instructor Santo’ has trained in LA
under the guidance of Mestre Batata. During his time down South
he taught regularly at the Capoeira Besouro Studio as well as
the Inosanto Academy.
At present Santo' teaches Capoeira at The Source Academy,
Cheng style Ba Gua Zhang in SE Portland and practices
Traditional Chinese Medicine in Lake Oswego.
It is the goal of Capoeira Besouro Oregon to promote Capoeira
and, eventually, create an Oregon Chapter of the LA based Ginga
Arts non profit.
